Benue REC to Ortom: All actors must play by INEC’s rules

Governor Samuel Ortom

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State, Prof. Sam Egwu, on Wednesday, stressed the need for all politicians in the state to play by the rules of the commission.

He was speaking ahead of the 2023 general elections in Benue State when he received Governor Samuel Ortom, at the INEC headquarters in Makurdi.

Our correspondent reports however that the aim of the governor’s visit to the commission was not known as he declined to speak with journalists who approached him at the INEC’s premises for comment.

But, the REC in response to the governor’s visit, assured that the commission would work assiduously to achieve a credible election.

Elections will hold as scheduled, Buhari assures

“You are one of the key stakeholders, and your coming to us is an indication that you want the election to be free and fair. Actors do not present their rules. All actors must play by the rules.

“You are right I should have paid a courtesy visit on you but I am in trouble because my security is under threat, this is an election period, and one cannot take anything for granted. Public perception will be an issue if I visit you,” he said.
