Benue residents lament insecurity as militia burn houses

Residents of Mbatyula community in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State are still counting loses as armed militias continued to burn houses and food barns in the vicinity.

Our correspondent reports that nine people were killed in the area last week when fight broke out between rival militas operating in the locality.

Some residents who spoke to our correspondent on telephone, Wednesday, lamented that the insecurity continued unabated in the community occasioned also by armed Invaders attack.

“Residents are still afraid. The invaders still come to set houses and food barns ablaze. In some cases, they open the barn doors to their cows to graze.

“They are causing lots of destruction to the extent that farm produce kept in the house aren’t safe anymore,” one of the villagers said.

Another resident of Mbatyula who preferred anonymity, said the affected communities are appealing to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his intervention and as well, come to the aid of the affected people in Mbatyula council ward.
