The enforcement team of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has arrested one illegal checkpoint operator on Akpagher Road in Gboko LGA for allegedly extorting farmers.

The acting Executive Chairman of BIRS, Emmanuel Agema, said that the arrest was effected when the team embarked on sensitisation of traders in Gboko markets.

Jacintha Bernard, the media assistant to Mr Agema, in a statement, said that the suspect was handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, she said that the traders who were present during the sensitisation, applauded the BIRS chairman for the initiative and assured that with the projects executed by Governor Hyacinth Alia, coupled with the integrity of the BIRS chairman, they would always pay their taxes to the state for the growth and development of the state.
