Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom said he was planning to merge the College of Agriculture, Yandev and the Benue State University in order to utilize the interventions of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the institutions in the state.

He said the merger will allow the government to channel funds towards the upgrade of the college of education.

Governor Ortom disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit on the Executive Secretary of TETFund Prof. Sulaiman Elias Bogoro in Abuja on Monday.

The TETFund boss had earlier to the governor that its intervention could not be extended to an institution which was mono-technic.

 “It is part of our plan to merge College of Agriculture, Yandev with Benue State University, so hearing from Executive Secretary today I will go back and fast- track the plan,” Ortom said.

While appealing to the agency to intensify its intervention on the institutions in the state, Ortom said by so doing  the impact will be felt more  and that will be adding value to what they had on ground.

The state according to him will support other levels of education in the state and ensure the judicious use of the funds.

In his remark earlier, Bogoro said the agency could legitimately put its money to fund research in the institution but not in intervening in other areas because it is a Monotechnic.

He however said the agency was conscious of what to do to push up the quality of the tertiary institutions in the country and promise to keep extending its interventions in the state when funds are available.
