The Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) in Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi has expressed willingness to partner the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to check post-harvest wastages.

CEFTER’s Deputy Director of Research and Collaborations, Dr. Sylvester Adejo, made the remark while delivering a lecture titled, “Effectively Combating Post Harvest Losses in Benue State,” during a workshop organised by the NYSC Editorial and Publishing Community Development Service (CDS) Group in Makurdi.

Adejo commended the corps members for the programme, stressing that value addition was significant to reducing post-harvest losses even as he encouraged the young graduates to visit the centre with ideas for partnership to see how the country can be liberated through agriculture.

Earlier, Paul Boluwatife Adeniyi, President of NYSC Editorial and Publishing Community Development Service group in Makurdi, noted that the workshop was in response to the post-harvest losses recorded in the state.

Adeniyi said the programme was aimed at how the situation can be checked, encourage farmers and show them probable ways to get value for their produce and ensure food security.

In his remarks, the Benue State Coordinator of NYSC, Simon Shicha, described the workshop as timely and commended the CDS group for thinking it wise to bring together farmers across the state and experts in the area of agriculture to cross-fertilise ideas on reducing post-harvest losses.
