Berger resumes work on Lagos- Ibadan Expressway, others after FG payments

The Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Wolfgang Goetsch has informed stakeholders that the Federal Government had made some payment to the company.
He said ahead of the company’s 48th Annual General Meeting that the payments were in respect of some critical road projects including the Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway where work is expected to resume immediately.
The construction firm had been going back and forth on the road on account of the inability of the government to sustain payment.
The 127 kilometer ongoing Lagos-Ibadan highway dual carriageway project is said to have reached 58.27 percent completion and created over 4,500 direct and indirect jobs.
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is handling Lagos to Shagamu, while the second section of the road from Shagamu to Ibadan is being handled by Reynoid Construction Company (RCC).
Section one handled by Julius Berger has a total of 43km with total contract sum of over N134 billion, while section two by RCC spans 84km with over N96 billion contract sum.
The construction giant also informed that it has been awarded the resurfacing of the Abuja to Kano 376 kilometers expressway. The road is said to serve between 80 to 100 million people.
Goetsch said JBN will be introducing brand new technology and innovation in the reconstruction of the road as it is set to recycle the current asphalt and reuse as base.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) in one of its meeting in December, 2017 approved the award of a N155.7 billion contract for the construction of a hybrid two-lane-six-lane road network that starts from Abuja and cuts through the heart of northern Nigeria: Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria to Kano.
