came up with a no guilty verdict and by implication bringing to an end the clamor for the removal from office, the governor which by all intents and purposes clearly shows the hands of the PDP headquarters and their central government in Abuja as largely responsible for the move just as it has happened and is now history in Adamawa State and like a joke, Baba Maimangoro has been illegally ousted by the cabal.
In Lafiya, the Nasarawa State capital and most of the cities in the state, riots and palpable protests were recorded showing how much the people were against the action of their representatives. The representatives failed to listen for reasons that are clearly selfish and hopeless.
I understand that the lawmakers have since the commencement of their plot stayed away from the state. Meaning they are based in Abuja possibly where they receive instructions on how to legislate for the good people of Nasarawa State. This is unfortunate.
Drawing a line and comparing what happened in Adamawa versus that in Nasarawa State simply shows one fact. That in Nasarawa you have a more purposeful elite class as against the tragedy in Adamawa where every elite is either a rival or enemy of the other. This seems to be the reality in the manner that politics and possibly other activities are conducted in the state.
I remember very vividly how Murtala Nyako was railroaded into the PDP and drafted as the governorship candidate of the party just to deal with the then Vice President Atiku Abubakar who had crossed over from the PDP to the AC after a protracted battle with his boss, General Obasanjo. Nyako’s choice by the Adamawa elites wasn’t for any reason, but the search for a powerful personality to stand the political clout of Atiku using the federal might.
That was done, but no sooner than he settled in office, crises began to brew amongst these elites, which culminated into the impeachment that I contest its legality not even propriety. It was improper and clearly I can see PDP and the government in Abuja in that whole drama. My argument always as far as this PDP impunity is concerned is that they are so unintelligent that their politics is just for today. They don’t look at the long run implication of several of their actions because they are so desperate they want to muddle 2015 by hook or by crook.
The game plan, therefore, is that as many opposition governors as possible must be removed to pave way for a Jonathan’s return in the next year’s election. I am not bothered and would not be if Nigerians through their votes decide eventually that what the country is undergoing under the current government is worthwhile and can be tolerated.
The issue, however, is that the electoral process must be clean and fraud avoided. A free and fair election that returns Jonathan to power would have my respect and support and I am sure of several other citizens. What I will not tolerate is fraud and that is exactly what many Nigerians and even foreigners concerned about government and politics of the country are talking about.
In Nasarawa State, the probe panel has cleared the governor of all allegations leveled by the PDP-dominated house. I hear that the Assembly is not satisfied with the outcome; I wonder what impunity would follow in view of the fact that as far as the constitution of Nigeria 1999 as amended is concerned, the matter is supposed to be rested.
Let me use this opportunity to congratulate the probe panel, the good people of Nasarawa State that have stood resolute against this Jonathan/Muazu assault against the will of the people. It is unfortunate that that is what the game changing semantic of the new PDP chairman is.
We all saw how others came, played their roles and got booted out of the party leadership. The last was BamangaTukur and if what happened is not sufficient lesson for the game changer, then, I don’t know what else would be.
For sure the way things are going on in the party and in the country, if care is not taken and moderation employed, the game changer may have a more tragic exit from that office of the chairman of the party.
In Nasarawa, the peoples’ will has suppressed the thirst of a minority legislature that seem to be in the hands of those who do not wish the people of the state well. A word of advise to the state legislature is that they should respect the constitution and stop being used by those who are not from their state.
It is a wrong use of discretion for any state assembly to remove either a governor or deputy because that is tantamount to undoing what several hundreds or possibly millions of Nigerians have done. The provision in the constitution has been wrongly understood or is being terribly put to negative uses by those in power and politics.
If our democracy is to grow, we must eschew this intolerance and impunity otherwise the nation would make one step forward and several steps backward.
There is huge difference therefore between the elites in Adamawa with those in Nasarawa State. If I were to grade them, I will pass those in Nasarawa while those from Adamawa are a colossal failure in my judgment.
