a former governorship and running mate aspirant in the APC primaries is running helter-skelter, waving a petition against former Speaker of the House of Representatives and candidate of the APC for the governorship seat in 2015. Even without referring to Masari’s rebuttal, the ex-senator’s motive is clearly a rehash of discarded and debunked blackmail, first bandied around a decade ago in a futile attempt to sabotage his rise to the Speakership of the lower house. But the additional exposure of his grudge and grouse as a prominent casualty in the victory and emergence of Masari as APC governorship candidate renders Bello’s “crusade” bereft of a moral basis.
The first reaction to such a holier-than-thou posturing is to interrogate the background of the supposed whistleblower, who appears to be blowing away his own credibility instead. I refer readers to an article aptly titled “Why are they in the Senate?”, published by Sunday Trust of July 12, 2009. Coming from such an undistinguished if not objectionable background, it is self-indicting for Senator Bello to raise dust that only settles to cast a shady shadow on his own reputation. Between an undistinguished senator, who failed to meet the minimum expectation of the public that at least one private bill should have been in his name after eight years; and a successful and highly rated governorship candidate of the leading opposition party in Nigeria in a strategic state like Katsina, there should also have been no basis for comparison or even cross-reference.
It is therefore not only instructive that Senator Bello is alone in this exercise in political folly; but more-so that even the usually scandal-savouring media have not found any nuisance value in his ranting. Masari has paid his dues diligently and to the admiration of his constituencies for which he attained national position of responsibility as the number 4 citizen and discharged his onerous responsibilities with statesmanship and political sophistication. His latest emergence as a governorship candidate is a testimony to his humility and sense of purpose as well as the abiding faith and confidence of the growing population of politically conscious citizens who regard him as an ideal leader and continue to strengthen his support base.
Aminu Masari’s well-earned standing at national and state levels surpasses the realm of reliance on certification and credentials, even though he has been ascertained and cleared as being worthy of every entry in his modest but illustrious CV at the highest levels of official scrutiny whenever the need arose. The fact that these salient attributes continue to endear him to the masses, over and above the bookish pretensions and snobbish posturing of detractors, remains a frustrating obstacle to the amateur politicians who think they can hoodwink the people with hollow records of performance even when they find themselves in vantage positions to promote their peoples’ interest. Masari needs no foreign or academic endorsement of his political prowess as a mass-oriented statesman. His rise and rise to ever greater positions of onerous responsibilities for the advancement of the interest of humanity speaks for him more eloquently than a thousand degrees in engineering. Ask Kanti Bello!
