At the book launch, Atiku Bagudu, Senator-elect for Kebbi Central and an Abacha associate, was earmarked to speak before dignitaries who graced the occasion.
However, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was the Chairman of the book launch ceremony, vehemently objected.
In this regard, I hail former President Obasanjo for rising to the occasion and saving the honour of the late Abubakar Koko, Sarkin Yakin Gwandu of blessed memory.
I also gathered that former President Obasanjo claimed he was not confortable with the emergence of Bagudu as a Senator, remarking that if he had known in good time, he would have attempted to stop him, considering Bagudu’s alleged partnership in Abacha’s allegedly questionable financial deals abroad.
Speaking in Daily Trust of Monday 21st December 2009, Barrister Mohammed Sambo, the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) Senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central bye-election claimed he could proof Obasanjo right for stopping Bagudu from contesting in 2007.
I think Prof. Dora Akunyili should show interest in getting the answer to the above question from the Kebbi State Governor to prove to Nigerians that her project has sincerity of purpose.
