The Archbishop of Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, Plateau State, Mathew Audu, has called on Nigerians to be wary of desperate politicians and  vote for only credible candidates in the 2023 elections.

He made the call yesterday in Jos, the state capital, at the opening mass for the 2022 General Assembly of the archdiocese.

He warned the people against supporting desperate politicians who do not have their interest and the country at heart.

According to him, the challenges facing the nation are due to the dishonesty of leaders at various levels.

He also said it was unfortunate that the political players were busy with politicking while the country’s public universities are closed.

 “As 2023 elections draw closer, we must be careful of the antics of desperate politicians who want to take advantage of every situation for their personal gains.

“We must not sell our votes no matter the situation; we must insist on voting the right leaders,” he said.

Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Prof Kabiru Adeyemo, said with the present state of the nation, the next president must be proactive and ready to implement people-oriented programmes that would rescue the economy.

He stated this yesterday at the 6th L.L Ali Memorial Lecture, organised by the Oyo State branch of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors.

“The followers should rededicate themselves, be focused, and not vote for people because of money, but for credible leaders,” he said.
