Beware of slippery slopes, new NASFAT executive urged

Leadership position is a trial and an exposure to blame, regret and insult, the Chief Missioner of Nasrullahil-Fatih (NASFAT), Imam Abdul-Azeez Morufu Onike has observed.

He spoke as a new Global Executive Council of NASFAT presided over by Alhaji Mumini Olaniyi Yusuf, a former Country Managing Director of Accenture and currently the Managing Partner of Verraki Partners, was inaugurated at NASFAT Islamic Center, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Aseese, Ogun state.

Onike noted that anyone who has shown interest for leadership position must be ready for criticism.

He said, “Coming forward for leadership position means you are asking people to come and observe and criticise your weaknesses, and this should make leaders always to be conscious of their conducts, for they have unknowingly become a moral gauge for their followers.”

He urged them to be conscious of slippery slopes or resistance weakening agents and potholes that surround any leader.

“Within the next two years, some people may (erroneously) not regard you as ordinary human beings again but rather as angels who could not make a mistake, your mistakes and sins will become graver and whatever misdeed that you do will be magnified. Therefore, don’t overestimate your strength to be immune to errors and temptations, rather be prayerful and continue to enhance yourselves spiritually,” Onike said.

Earlier in his acceptance speech, the new President said his administration would be anchored on the acronym of HELD which implies Health, Education, Livelihood and Da’wah.

He said this would address critical issues facing NASFAT members and the Ummah in general, and which are also aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
