Making the call in Ibadan last week shortly after the civil servants in Oyo State returned to work at the end of the New Year festivities, an Islamic cleric and Chief Imam of the state Government House Mosque, Alhaji Bello Adebayo Rufai expressed concern that the affected sycophants would only give the governor what they thought would serve their own parochial interests.

The Chief Imam made this charge while delivering a sermon at the New Year interdenominational prayer service heralding workers to their duty posts held at the foyers of the governor’s office at Agodi in Ibadan.

He also enjoined public office holders and civil servants to desist from betraying the government just as he called on the authorities not to betray the workers, saying this was the only way to build harmonious relationship in the New Year.

 The Chief Imam said the governor would be making history by ensuring that dividends of democracy got to all the nooks and crannies of the state this year.

“For the sake of posterity, the governor has to justify the confidence reposed in him by the electorate by serving the state more diligently,” the Chief Imam reiterated.
