As we all adjust to living in a post-Lemonade world, some more exciting Beyoncé news: Variety reports that HBO will submit the visual album for an Emmy, in the variety special category. Looks like Beyoncé is one step closer to an EGOT.
Let’s break this down letter by letter. “E” for Emmy: Beyoncé has two Emmy nominations behind her already, both for live performances – for her and Jay Z’s On the Run Tour in 2015, and her 2013 Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show, both of which were huge deals but not nearly as artistically meticulous or weighty as Lemonade. Also, variety special nominees at the Emmys tend to be live performances and Kennedy Center Honors events, so her chances are looking very solid.
“G” for Grammy: which Beyoncé has already won several times over. As for “O,” we already noted last year that an eventual Oscar win seems inevitable for Beyoncé, and especially given the recent feat that is Lemonade. That just leaves the Tony, which she will surely knock out when she drops her newest visual album as a live Broadway performance.
