Bible Society of Nigeria to honour Onaiyekan, others

According to the society, the award, which is part of activities lined up to mark its third annual founder’s day is scheduled for Feb. 8 and in recognition of the awardees selfless service to mankind.

The clerics to be honoured include the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Most Rev. John Onaiyekan and General Leader of Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church (Ayo Ni O) Surulere District, Senior Apostle Gabriel Fakeye.

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja, Pastor Paul Enenche would also be honoured.

According to a release by the Information Officer of the BSN, Mr Ben Mordi, the theme of this year’s event is: “From Selection to Election: Nigeria Must Migrate from Mediocrity to Excellence”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Guest Speaker is Rev. Father Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna.

The programme, which holds at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs [NIIA], Victoria Island, Lagos, will be chaired by Prof. Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information.

Prominent Nigerians expected at the event include former Head of State and Patron of BSN, Gen. Yakubu Gowon; former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma and state governors.

The BSN is a non-profit making interdenominational Christian organisation that has been involved in the translation of the holy bible into local languages.

It also publishes, distributes and raises funds for bible work in the country.

So far, the BSN has produced the complete bible in 19 Nigerian languages, the New Testament in 60 local languages and some other books in 98 languages. (NAN)
