The Bida-Agaie-Lapai Road has become a major source of concern for residents and travellers. Despite the little efforts made by the government to repair the road, heavy trucks and trailers continue to cause damage, leading to frequent accidents, loss of lives, and frustrating traffic jams.
The presence of large vehicles on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai Road has resulted in numerous tragedies. Cars and motorcycles have been involved in devastating collisions with these trucks, leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties. Families mourn loved ones lost in these accidents, while survivors are often left with life-altering injuries.
One traveller, Mustapha, lamented, “This road is a nightmare. These trailers don’t follow any rules, and they destroy everything in their path.” The recent incident that occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, along Lapai-Agaie Road, involved a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a trailer at Nami village. The driver of the bus, Mohamed Baba, reported that “The trailer attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to the collision. Following the accident, the trailer’s driver fled the scene.

Additionally, strict enforcement of traffic laws is essential to prevent overloading and reckless driving. The government must collaborate with private stakeholders to ensure that the repaired sections of the road are preserved, while public awareness campaigns should be launched to promote road safety.
