According to the students, the poor supply of power is likely due to the high population of students in the institution who are making use of electricity for various activities.
They noted that the unstable electricity supply also deprives them of water supply as electricity is needed to pump out water from the boreholes. They said they have to follow long queues in order to fetch water in turns for bathing thereby forcing them to go for lectures late.
However, some students are of the opinion that the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has not really put in effort in providing consistent power especially in this hot season.
The circulation manager of PHCN, Bida branch, Mr. Tanko Buntu, had earlier said that in no time the problem would be solved but the situation is yet to be improved upon.
A HNDII student of Banking and Finance, Abbah James, said the issue of unstable power supply affects all students because they attend lectures late and can’t read at night unless they make use of reading lamps which is not healthy for their eyes.
“Most times, for me to do my assignments, I have to use generator and because it is hot period we don’t sleep comfortably or read comfortably without power, something has to be done about this electricity issue,” he said.
