Speaking on Friday in Abuja when he met with members of the FCT Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, the minister said within the short period he has assumed office as minister of sports, he discovered that there are a lot of wranglings and bickerings which he maintained are not healthy for sports.

Bio disclosed that beginning from the National Sports Commission, the parastatals and sports federation; he has noticed so much power tussle and ill fighting and would not fold his hands and watch the trend continue.

The minister who said he intends to leave lasting legacies in the sports ministry said there is no way the negative trend will be allowed to continue because if that happens, it would simply mean that nobody is in charge of the key sector.

He said: “Gentlemen of the press, within the short time I have spent here as minister of sports, one of the few things I have discovered is that the National Sports Commission, is a very small compact organization but it is one of the most sensitive and highly politicized.

“Unless we come together as one body and told ourselves the home truth, there is no way Nigerian sports will move forward. There is so much bickering, intrigues, too much bad blood and this is one major area I am going to attack without further delay”.

He vowed to bring in discipline and sanity in the operations of the National Sports Commission and all the sports federations.

“There must be a level of authority. Somebody must be in charge. Nobody should be seen to be above constituted authority. It is wrong”, he said.

In addition, the minister promised to evolve a workable document that would succinctly capture what Nigerians want sports in the country to be.

“I want us to plan ahead. Where do we want to be in year 2020 in sports. Let us have a blueprint of what we want as a country in the area of sports. I will bring in a well documented structure plan which I want to leave as a legacy” he stated.
