The prelate during his assessment visit to Abacheke, Opuoma, Obiakpu, Ezi-Orsu communities in the Ohaji/Egema local government area decried the rate of damage of flood in the areas.

He advised those whose crops were damaged to adjust their lives to suit the present condition.

Oparaojiaku stated that the affected persons need empowerment to enable them to start afresh in life, adding that because of the damage done by the flood, cost of food items has astronimically gone high.

According to him, the sources of supply of food items have been badly affected engendering shortage of supplies and consequential inflation in the state.

He beckoned on the state and federal governments to hasten up in assisting the people so they start a new life.

He said hunger looms in the areas as huge farmlands have been devastated.

The bishop said he could see hunger in the faces of the people, regretting that the people had laboured for years only to see their crops swept away.

Meanwhile, cost of food items has continued to rise to unimaginable level following the washing away of farmlands in the two oil producing local government areas of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta.

Sunday Trust observed that eight cups of garri that used to cost N100 now go for N200 while a small basin of garri now costs N6,000 as against N1000-N2000 before.

The inhabitants of Egbema community now go to either Ohaji or Owerri to buy foodstuffs for consumption due to scarcity.

Two of the victims in Opuoma, Mr Charlse Onyedo and Beatrice Emeji told the bishop that the situation has brought hunger and hardship in their areas.

They called for immediate intervention by appropriate authorities to alleviate their sufferings and pains. The bishop prayed fervently for the victims.
