The Biu-Gombe road is a traveller’s nightmare in the real sense of the word. Biu is in Borno state. Its a federal road.
The 120 kilometre road was built in the 1970s but more than three decades after, it has failed, woefully.
Aisha Birma who recently travelled on the road told Daily Trust it took her four hours to traverse the road which "should take about one hour."
She said: "The road is a death trap. My village is about 30 minutes drive to Biu but it takes a life time to get there".
The reconstruction of the road was allegedly awarded to a Chinese firm some two years ago but work stopped when a Chinese who was the contractor and a Nigerian were killed by Boko Haram insurgents.
Relative peace has since returned to that parts of the states.
