A businessman, Adebola Omodele, was Wednesday remanded in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding one Alhaja Kuburat Lawal, wife of a former governor of Kwara State, late Mohammed Lawal, of the sum of N8.5 million
Omodele, who was arrested by men of the Lagos State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID), was docked on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.
The police alleged that the businessman and others now at large, had sometime in July 2012, conspired among themselves and fraudulently obtained the said sum form the former governor’s wife, with the pretence of selling to her Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), popularly known as diesel, the presentation which was false.
He however pleaded not guilty to the charges with the trial judge, Justice Hassan ordering that he be remanded in prison custody till August 1, when his bail application would be entertained.
