A middle-aged businessman was yesterday remanded in prison custody by a state magistrate’s court over alleged breach of trust and cheating.  

The accused person, Felix Sunday Dada of No. 50 Alowa Street of Okegbe in Ondo State was charged on allegation of cheating in a timber business transaction worth over N1.8 million.

He was sued before the court by one Alhaji Ahmadu Sarki of Herwagana quarters of Gombe metropolis, who alleged that between April 17, 18 and 20, 2017, he gave the accused the sum of N1,870,000 to buy timber for him.

The complainant alleged that the accused refused to buy the timber and converted the money to his personal use.

Police prosecuting officer, Inspector Habibu Danjuma, said the offense contravened sections 311 and 320 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Chief Magistrate Japhet Maida adjourned the case to October 23 to enable police complete investigation, as requested for by the prosecutor.
