Speaking in Downtown Los Angeles after the news was revealed, Will.i.am said the band’s new dancier material had breathed new life into their music, adding: “We’re a brand new group, we’ve done a lot of things in the past but it’s a new day – it truly is, it’s new, we’re working and defining it as we go.”  He said the band didn’t want to live in the past with their new record.

“I’m so proud that we didn’t get swallowed by yesterday’s success,” he said. “It means so much to us because before we did this album we sat down as a group and said ‘OK guys, what kind of record are we going to make? Are we going to make a record based on what people expect us to do, or are we going to go out and do what we need to do?’ and that was be inspired by the DJs.”

Singer Fergie said I Gotta Feeling really seemed to hit the right notes with people, as the group did with their first big hit Where Is The Love? “It felt kind of like Where Is The Love? when we had that song … with the recession and this environment, it really felt like people needed a pick me up, an escape, somewhere to feel good and music is always that place.”
