The Registrar of the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Mami, has decried the use of unqualified and unlicensed personnel as health records officers in health facilities.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, he said the utilization of such workers affects optimum health service delivery in the country.

He enjoined healthcare providers and related facilities to strengthen their health records departments with qualified and licensed practitioners as doing so would facilitate the collection and analysis of qualitative health data.

The registrar said the board recently constituted some committees in order to ensure integrity and discipline among members.

He said the committees were charged with investigating all alleged cases of misbehaviour by registered professionals, investigate those without valid or current practice license and hospitals/clinics that engage unlicensed members in health records management among others.
