The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) says it has developed a strategic plan to enhance quality assurance in schools in its ongoing effort to address falling standard of education.

The Registrar of the Board, Professor Muhammed Shafiu Abdullahi disclosed this at the flag-off of NBAIS Schools Quality Assurance sensitization programme yesterday in Minna.

Represented by the Director of Administration, Hafsat Ahmed Duro, Prof Abdullahi said the plan would work in line with the National Policy on Education.

According to him, part of the plan is the posting of trained NBAIS staff to all Arabic and Islamic secondary schools to serve as the Board’s Quality Assurance Officers.

This, he said, would help in the effective implementation of NBAIS school syllabi and curriculum and to provide data on the activities of schools.

“With the provision of this data, the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies will be better informed for a strong basis for examining its candidates,” he explained.

He noted so far, over 1,000 schools have been adopted in the ongoing efforts.

The Registrar expressed optimism that with the provision of the data from schools the board will be better informed for a strong basis for examining its candidates.

In her address, the Niger state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatima Magudu said the introduction of quality assurance staff to all Arabic and Islamic Secondary Schools is a welcome development.

She lamented that the quality of instructors is declining in schools adding that the initiative by NBAIS is aimed at boosting the efficiency of educational system in line with international standard.

“The need for quality assurance officers in our schools cannot be over emphasized in order to ensure quality teaching and learning. Our educational system is in major need of quality assurance in order to ensure and maintain high standard of education at high level,” said.
