The pictures of Bode that emerged these few days do not quite resemble the boisterous Bode who dominated our political landscape when he was the hatchet man of his party in the South west. He was a perfect picture of a very powerful and highly successful Nigerian whose main achievement as it is now revealed is to have successfully fooled the rest of us and dispossessed us of our money and living a dream life with it.
It is a surprise that Bode is going to spend time (no matter how short) in Kirikiri. Reason is because, first, he is a sacred cow (or so we thought) and sacred cows get away with about everything including murder. Bode and his supporters knew this and that explains his confidence throughout the trial and that is why his supporters came in carnival mood waiting to rub it in but thankfully, they were disappointed and in the usual Nigerian manner ended up blaming Bode’s political enemies! If the trial had turned out differently, by now, the news media would have been agog with all sorts of congratulatory messages and some aimed at mocking his enemies that ‘failed in their satanic mission’ to nail an honest and hardworking nationalist whose only sin is to want the best for Nigeria. They would have regaled us with both video and still pictures taken at various thanksgiving events. But wait a minute, what about the N85 billion they fleeced from us? It is not out of place to think that Bode’s calmness and lack of betrayal of emotions is because no one has asked him to return a dime out of the N85 billion loot . Like Tafa Balogun, he will soon be out and free to enjoy his loot. In the same country where commoners are locked away (if they are lucky to escape with their lives) indefinitely, the likes of Bode and Tafa get away with a couple of month of mock imprisonment.
The make up of Bode’s comrades in crime cuts across socio-ethno-religious boundaries; a former NPA Managing Director, Aminu Dabo, Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Captain Olusegun Abidoye, Zanna Maidaribe and Mr. Sule Aliyu and simply confirm what we have always known. The upper class speaks only one language and as such understands themselves very well, they are always united in looting.
Meanwhile, let us all join Al-Mustapha in welcoming Bode to his latest abode; the Kirikiri prison. I pray that this sets fire of fear in the bellies of those that currently think they are untouchable as only God is all-powerful.
