The lifeless body of a newly born baby has been found at a refuse dump site in Kiyi village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A resident of Kiyi, Samuel Ishaya, said the newborn was found on Monday, around 11:12 am at a refuse dump near an uncompleted building in the area.
He said a woman who went to dump refuse discovered the baby and raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of some other residents, who quickly rushed to the scene.
He said the baby was found wrapped with clothes, and the corpse was evacuated and buried after security operatives visited the scene.
Abuja Metro reports that incidents of abandoned babies have become rampant in the FCT, which many believe is as a result of unwanted pregnancies.
In the last two weeks, three cases of dumped newborn babies were reported at Unguwar Azara, Unguwar Dodo and Tipper garage areas of Gwagwalada in Gwagwalada Area Council.
The police in the area confirmed the incident but declined further comments.
