NBRRI’s Director- General, Professor Danladi Slim stated this in Abuja, during a press conference on the institute’s housing summit coming up in Abuja.
He said, “In pursuit of its mandate, the institute after much planning and deliberation with key stakeholders, deemed it necessary to organize a world conference, aimed at tackling the enormous housing challenges facing the country today.”
He noted that  in the past years, there have been conflicting figures on the actual number of housing deficit in Nigeria, saying  while some put the figure at 10 million, others say it is 12, 14, 16 and even as high as 18 million.
“It’s hoped that the actual housing figure shortage in the country can be agreed upon or modalities for its computation postulated at this conference,” he added.
Professor Slim said that other issues that the conference hopes to discuss housing availability and affordability; housing finance and mortgage; building materials and technology; housing models, delivery models and framework; technical capacity, research and development among others.
He expressed optimism that at the end of the summit, a practical road map will emerge towards achieving affordable and sustainable housing in Nigeria.
