“The August 21st ultimatum issued by NPS headquarters in Abuja to all the inmates to return has expired, the essence was to entice and encourage them to return on their own, fortunately some have actually returned while others are still on the run,’’ he said.   

Kaina said that the NIS had information network through which it hoped to apprehend those still at large.   

“The service has a strong network not only in Borno but all over the federation through which it will facilitate the arrest of the inmates, as soon as the incident happened; our headquarters in Abuja released the photographs of all of them and other dossiers that will help in getting them back, we are hoping to use these in getting them as soon as possible,’’ he said.

Kaina said some of the rearrested inmates were apprehended in the neighbouring states of Gombe, Yobe and Adamawa.
