Checks by Daily Trust yesterday revealed that students and staff of the institutions are subjected to rigorous search before been allowed into the premises.
At the Federal College of Education, Zaria, a bulletin released by the college’s Public Relations Officer, Rakiya Sidi, advised students and staff to cooperate with the security personnel while they implement “the new security measures”.
The same rigorous security measures are in place at the two campuses of the Ahmadu Bello University and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria and other institutions visited by our correspondent.
The Zazzau emirate has also advised residents to always be on the alert in order to avert the “work of evil doers.”
In the effort to calm residents over the anxiety created by the rumour of impending attacks that would be targeted at some federal institutions in the city, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, has also urged residents to engage in prayers.
“We want to call on our people, especially those in the Ahmadu Bello University, Federal College of Education, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, among others, to continue to be on the alert especially on the presence of some questionable characters. We are also advising them to continue to praying for continuous peace, not only in Zaria but in other parts of the world,” the statement said.
