The object was discovered around 10.am in Gonin-gora, a densely-populated suburb located along Kaduna-Abuja road by residents. Witnesses told Weekly Trust that the object was most likely buried near a kerosene tank on Thursday night by unknown persons.

 

While residents of the area were still panicking, the Mouka Foam’s Tirkania factory, a few kilometres away, caught fire.

The smoke billowing from the flames of the factory, which covered the sky, added to the tension as residents related the fire to the bomb.  The factory went up in flames shortly after the Anti-Bomb Squad of the Kaduna Police Command disarmed the explosive object.

Weekly Trust gathered that it took the Anti-Bomb Squad time before they were able to disarm the explosive device. The bomb was discovered by a cement dealer whose business is in close proximity with the site where the discovery was made. He noticed it while trying to park his car. “This is the third time bombs are being discovered here in Gonin-Gora and nobody has been arrested in connection with it. We are living in perpetual fear because the Anti-Bomb Squad that disarmed the object told us that it has the capacity to destroy our whole community,” he said.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawan confirmed the discovery but confirmed that nobody sustained injury as the police were able to disarm the object safely. He said the object was not a bomb but an improvised explosive object. Lawan urged the people of the state not to panic and to continue with their lawful activities.

At Mouka Factory, witnesses said the fire started a few minutes after 11.am. Nobody could ascertain the cause of the fire but some factory workers said it started from the production area.
