The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) said it has received a total of 204 entries from radio and television stations across the country for the 2025 edition of The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards (TNBA) scheduled to hold on December 11, 2025 in Abuja.

BON chairman and director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Comrade Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja, where he unveiled preparations for the forthcoming awards ceremony.

According to Dembos, this year’s entries were received following a nationwide call for entries between July 1 and August 31, 2025, covering broadcast materials produced from January 1 to December 31, 2024.

“At the close of the submission period, we recorded a total of 204 entries; 85 from television, 104 from radio, one special entry and 12 unspecified entries,” he said.

The BON chairman noted that the TNBA, which debuted in May 2023 at Eko Hotels in Lagos, was instituted to promote excellence, innovation and professionalism in the Nigerian broadcast industry.

“The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards aim to reward high-quality journalism, creative storytelling and responsible media practice. It provides a platform that encourages healthy competition and recognises outstanding contributions to the growth of the broadcast sector,” Dembos said.

He announced that a seven-member panel of judges, chaired by Dr Danladi Bako, a former director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has been constituted to evaluate the entries.

Other members of the panel include representatives from NBC, the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and other independent professionals.

He said the awards would feature 12 categories each for radio and television, alongside posthumous and special recognition awards for broadcast icons that have made significant contributions to the industry.

Dembos further disclosed that the TNBA Steering Committee, chaired by Bayo Awosemo of Arise TV, had been instrumental in coordinating the process. Other members include Mr Deji Balogun (Channels TV), Yusuf Alhaji Isah (Yobe Television), Mrs Elizabeth Agbai (NTA), Mr Patrick Ugbe (Hit FM, Calabar), Mr Simbabi Ogbeha (Confluence Cable Network) and Dr Adams Momoh (Abuja Media Corporation), with representation from MultiChoice, FRCN and VON.

This year’s ceremony, he said, was expected to attract over 2,000 guests and would be broadcast live by several BON member stations, reaching an estimated 100 million viewers and listeners across Nigeria and beyond.

“We are confident that this second edition will surpass the success of the maiden edition held in 2023. It will be another glamorous celebration of excellence in broadcasting,” Dembos added.

He commended the TNBA Steering Committee for its commitment, and urged sponsors and stakeholders to support the initiative aimed at elevating standards in the Nigerian broadcast industry.
