The book launch which attracted a modest turn out of sports stakeholders was chaired by the Secretary to the Government of Kano State, Engineer Rabiu Suleiman Bichi.
Speaking at the occasion, the SSG who represented Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso said the book is timely as it will engender interest in sports, especially football among the youths of the country.
Binchi thereafter set the ball rolling by paying N100, 000.00 for ten copies of the book which he said would be delivered to the newly built sports academy in the state.
Representatives of the Director of the National Institute for sports, FCT Prisons Command, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, National Universities Commission, NUC, NASFAT, also bought copies of the book in cash and pledges.
The author of “Soccer in Africa”, Adebiyi told Feverpitch that the book encompasses the whole concept of football in Africa right from its inception, its evolution, the trends, milestones achievements, players and administrators to the present moment.
He also spoke on the benefits of the book which he said is of international quality.”What you benefitin reading the book is the historical facts on football in Africa. Too much attention is on European football and so people do not even know about African clubs.
“The book delves into the inception of football in Africa. It is a juxtaposition of football and the continent. The exploits, achievements, milestones of Africa in relation to football has been diligently treated”.
On why he has translated the book into three different languages, Adebiyi said: “The book is written in the three official languages of the African football governing body, CAF. English, French and Arabic are the three languages used by CAF.
“I now look at it and said in Africa we have not seen people actually reflected on this game of soccer in relation to Africa. I then said if I can write on how football came into Africa and how it is today in the three language it will be superb and very unique”.
