Akachi’s new novel, Roses and Bullets, is based on the events of the Nigerian Civil War fought between 1967 and 1970. It is the heart-rending story of Ginika and Eloka, two star-crossed lovers, whose love was halted and destroyed by the Biafran war and further complicated by other circumstances. Agbasimalo’s The Forest Dames is a novel tells the story of a young girl who lived with her parents in the relatively calm and peaceful British colony of Nigeria, where shortly after independence compatriots went for each other’s throats. This soon exploded into a full blown civil war and from that time onwards, nothing was ever the same again.

Isiaka has done some ten or more works of art, including single, co-authored and edited works. His first outing as a literary writer was in 1988 while still a student at the Bayero University in Kano. He has four new works ready for publishing, An Old Man and his Son & other Stories (children fiction); Women’s War (play) Rusting Times (play) and a short story collection nearing completion.

The BookJam@Silverbird Abuja is a collaboration of the Abuja Literary Society and Silverbird. It holds every last Friday of the month and is anchored by co-host of the Abuja Poetry Slam, Jide Attah. The BookJam consists of book readings, book signings, musical presentations, raffle draw and a discussion by the guest writers. In addition, there is usually a special Slam poetry performance by some of Abuja’s finest Slam champions.
