The books are Great Rulers of Northern Nigeria: A Compendium of the Lives and Times of Great Traditional Rulers of Northern Nigeria and the Historical Evolution of their Institutions (Volume 1-4) and Great Unforgettable Leaders of Northern Nigeria: The Histories and Philosophies of Great Northern Leaders who Shaped the Destiny of Modern Northern Nigeria (Volume 1).
The chairman said the book on the evolution of traditional institutions in northern Nigeria is quite inspiring.
“The second book which is also the first of its kind, has bravely presented the histories and philosophies of great northern leaders who shaped the destiny of modern northern Nigeria,” he said.
“These eminent, great unforgettable northern leaders distinguished themselves in their chosen fields/profession and have impacted positively on the society thereby becoming icons of what they stood for.
“The books impressively presents an account of the history, land, human and natural resources as well as the customs and traditions which have helped to determine the collective and individual features of the component units of Northern Nigeria.”
Saleh emphasized the desirability of such documentation saying the institution of northern traditional rulers bears an eccentric but fascinating uniqueness onto itself given its influence on the religious, cultural and socio-political life of the people both in past and the present.
These books are initiated and supported by Committee of Eminent Northern Leaders under the Chairmanship of Hon. Justice Mamman Nasir with Mr Timothy Ugbaa as the Project Secretary.
“We wanted to use our study of the past to help us propose solutions to problems of today, as another approach to building a dynamic stable northern Nigeria in particular and Nigeria in general. These books are timely and worthwhile contribution to the history of Nigeria. The birth of these books is most relevant now as we attain 100 years of nationhood (centenary celebration),” Ugbaa said.
Traditional rulers both from within and outside the country, the presidents of Ghana, Chad, Benin and Niger; state governors, scholars and other such eminent personalities from northern Nigeria as well as diplomatic corps are expected to be guests at the launch.
