Borderless security challenges threatening Nigeria — Air Chief

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, says emerging threats such as terrorism, banditry, cybercrime and security challenges that do not respect jurisdiction or boundaries are threatening the country’s national security.

Abubakar, however, called for sustained collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies, stressing that national security is a shared duty that demands unity of effort.

The top air officer was quoted by Ehimen Ejodame, an Air Commodore and the spokesman of NAF, to have spoken on Monday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, during Air Provost Conference 2025.

Abubakar reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force, particularly the Air Provost, to strengthen inter-agency bonds through joint intelligence sharing, crime detection, coordinated operations, and mutual capacity building.

Highlighting the central role of the Air Provost in NAF operations, he described them as the “custodians of discipline” and “guardians of installations,” whose work is vital to both internal order and broader operational success.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sani, emphasised the pivotal role of the Air Provost in maintaining discipline, enforcing regulations, and safeguarding NAF infrastructure.

On his part, the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, lauded NAF’s operations and other security agencies in the state for their relentless efforts in sustaining peace across the Plateau.
