The Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria has urged the National Assembly to pass the Water Resources Management Bill into law to promote the effective management of water resources potentials.

The association’s president, Mr Francis Uzoma, told newsmen in Abuja that the bill, when assented into law by the President, would help to prioritise issues in the water resources sector through policies and programmes.

According to him, deliberate policies and programmes would also help in promoting integrated water resources management which would help the country in maximising all the benefits of the water sector.

Uzoma commended the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, on his giant strides and in giving priority of attention to change the narratives of poor water governance.

He said the implementation of the water sector roadmap and passage of the water resources bill before the National Assembly would also help in reversing the trend of indiscriminate drilling of boreholes and check quackery in the system.

He urged the three tiers of government to invest more in water infrastructure and also appropriate adequate funds for the sector to prevent the outbreak of water-borne diseases.
