Granting a request by the legion, Zulum directed the Ministry of Agriculture to liaise with its officials to identify specific areas the government can support the ex-servicemen’s desire to reactive a farmland allocated to them in the 1940’s.
At a similar event in Lagos, the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, donated N5 million to the ex-service men’s appeal fund.
Sanwo-Olu noted that all sacrifices made by members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in keeping the nation united would continue to be recognised and honoured by the state government.
He assured that the state government would not relent in supporting family members of ex-service personnel who died fighting for Nigeria’s unity.
The Deputy Commandant General of the Nigerian Legion in Lagos, Colonel Fola Akande, said the fund would put smiles on the faces of over 2,000 beneficiaries of the Legion’s yearly empowerment programmes.
