Former Chief Registrar, Borno Cooperatives Society, Mallam Garba Bala Abubakar, his wife and two family members have been killed in a fire outbreak at his residence on Damboa road, Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
A family source, who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, saying it took place on Sunday morning.
He said the sad incident claimed the lives of husband, wife and two other female members.
A friend of the deceased who posted about the unfortunate incident on Facebook, described Abubakar as a “very humble” and “down to earth” personality who died along with cherished members of his immediate family.

He said the domestic fire outbreak was suspected to have been ignited by electrical surge.
“The deceased retired as a Chief Registrar of Cooperative Societies with the Borno State Government and later worked with a private borehole drilling company.
“Not long a go we spoke extensively on contemporary issues and assured him that I would visit him in his new house whenever I happen to be in Maiduguri. Not knowing that was the last time I would hear his voice. Allahu Akbar.
“A very humble and down to earth personality is gone along with cherished members of his immediate family. They had since been buried in Maiduguri today. May Allah (swt) admit them into Aljannah Firdausih,” he said.
However, effort by the reporter to contact the Director, Borno Fire Service, Umaru Adamu, was not successful as his phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
