The Member representing Jere Federal Constituency of Borno State, Ahmed Satomi, has disbursed N20 million scholarships to 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.
Satomi asked the students to cut their sleep for four hours to get distinction in marketable courses like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other related courses to make themselves self-reliant.
Flagging off the distribution in Maiduguri on Sunday, the lawmaker also promised to take almajirai and out-of-school children off the streets of his constituency.
He said, “It’s an annual event which I have to do with the little resources at my disposal. Last year we gave scholarship to 1,250 students in addition to JAMB registration of thousands of applicants.
“I’m giving this to the most deserving students mostly struggling to pay their tuition fees due to financial hardship.”
Satomi, who is the Chairman, House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, said he supported the bill for the creation of a commission for almajirai and out-of-school children to deal with the issues facing the North and his constituency.”
