Borno to urbanise 5 LGAs, shares food to 9,400 displaced persons

Borno State Government has resolved to urbanise communities in five local government areas as normality returned to most places rocked by insurgency.

Thus, communities in Biu, Gubio, Kaga, Mafa and Monguno LGAs have been set aside in the first phase of the urbanisation scheme.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum made the announcement on Saturday in Mafa town where he distributed cash and other humanitarian supplies to displaced families.

Zulum, who arrived at Mafa on Friday night, paid an unscheduled visit to the General Hospital, Mafa, during which he came across health workers, amongst them, an Igbo woman, Mrs Mabel Ijeoma from Anambra State that had been working there for 15 years, who, like some others, received N200, 000 gift from the governor.

The governor supervised the distribution of food and cash to 9,400 internally displaced households in Mafa.

The governor also expressed gratitude to the North East Development Commission for supplementing the efforts of the state government.

In a separate development, the governor had reportedly received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Maiduguri.
