Borno unveils N3.8bn construction equipments

The Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hassan Mohammed Lawal, commissioned the equipments totaling 133 items that comprise 50 tipping trailers, 20 tippers, 10 container trailers, 10 low loader trailers, 3 concrete mixers and 5 containers of spare parts, 10 Bulldozers, 6 pay loaders, 2 excavators and 3 graders amongst other equipments.

Our correspondent, however, observed that some of the equipments had to be refurbished before being moved to the Ramat square, venue of the commissioning, because they were purchased some years ago and parked at the trailers park without being put to use; an action that attracted many criticisms against the state government.

During the commissioning, the Dr. Hassan Lawan said, “I have come, seen and I am overwhelmed. Honestly speaking, without flattering the governor, I think you stand out in the area of corporate governance and road infrastructure. You must embark on maintenance and supervision of the equipments. The state government should establish senatorial and district workshops to effectively implement the idea, after all the primary idea of establishing the agency is to ensure the existence of safe roads. Construct new ones and maintain the existing ones within the state, while ensuring that all broken down vehicles are evacuated immediately to prevent accidents.”

Prior to the commissioning, the Minister who was the Special Guest of Honour, went round to inspect the construction equipments in company of the Borno State fovernor, his counterpart from Yobe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam, former governor of Borno State, Sen. Maina Ma’aji Lawan, among other elders  of the state.

While advising the Borno State governor, the Works and Urban Development Minister said, “Ensure that you establish a liaison office in Abuja to favourably compete for construction contracts with the existing multinational construction companies.”
