Gusau said that only Borno and Yobe states have from 1999 to date, consistently remained under opposition parties that gave birth to the APC, adding that the other 17 northern states were, at various times, governed by the PDP which controlled the centre.
He argued that by remaining in opposition in the last 16 years, Borno and Yobe states suffered the worst neglect by the federal government.
Gusau spoke to journalists, Thursday, in reaction to media reports concerning ongoing struggles by geo-political zones and states in the North to have prominent offices of the National Assembly zoned to them, following the victory of the APC, which won majority seats in the Senate and House of Representatives at the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.
“For me, the APC will not be fair to Borno and Yobe states if the party fails to zone either the office of the Senate president or that of the speaker to the two states because I have tried to examine political developments across the North in the last sixteen years and I realised that only Borno and Yobe states have consistently remained in opposition parties that gave rise to the APC.
He said the PDP-led federal government has refused to take over the Borno State owned polytechnic and college of education, mainly because Borno has remained in opposition.  
“When you look at all the issue of underdevelopment, these two states deserve support. I think they deserve to have either the Senate president or the speaker so that they can attract attention to the states.
