‘BOSAN not NBA supervising body’

Nigerian Bar Association

The convener, Open Bar Initiative and past publicity secretary, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja branch, Silas Joseph Onu, has declared that the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), cannot constitute itself into a supervising body of the Bar.

He said this over the weekend in reaction to an alleged plan to announce a committee of BOSAN to audit the just concluded NBA election.

According to him, BOSAN is an independent incorporated trustee, with no connection to the NBA whatsoever to have constituted itself into a supervising body of the NBA.

Also, the BOSAN is not known to the legal practitioner’s act and has no place in the proposed amendment of the said act, and their input should be routed through the recognized body of lawyers, the NBA, he said, adding that they cannot constitute themselves as a body acting for or on behalf of lawyers.

In a reaction, human rights lawyer and activist, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa (SAN) said that the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) will not succumb to blackmail and is set to look into the controversies and allegations of election fraud that has bedevilled the association since 2016.

The Body also set up a committee to audit the 2016, 2018 and 2020 elections.  The five-man BOSAN committee includes Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN; Ètigwe Uwa, SAN and Osaro Eghobamien SAN amongst others.
