The NUJ secretariat was recently closed down on the orders of the NUJ President, Mohammed Garba who after inspecting facilities at the centre during his visit to monitor the state congress held recently, expressed dissatisfaction with the deplorable condition of the once elegant secretariat.

Sheriff however said his administration would change the looks of the secretariat and bring back its lost glory. He made the promise while receiving the newly elected executives of the Borno NUJ who paid him a familiarisation visit at the government house in Maiduguri. He also said his administration would construct a press centre inside the government house in Maiduguri which would be equipped with modern Information technology facilities for the use of journalists in research and other internet activities. He pledged that government would donate a utility car and a bus to the union.
