A 13-year-old boy has been found dead on Monday evening at his father’s house at Sarankiyo quarters of Gombe metropolis after he allegedly hung himself.

The teenager (name withheld) was found dead in a room in the house not long after he returned from school, residents of the area said.

A resident who craved anonymity told our correspondent that the boy has once told his mother that he wanted to imitate how people killed themselves in films.

When contacted, Gombe State Police Command spokesman, DSP Obed Mary Malum, confirmed the incident.

She said father of the deceased, who is a serving police inspector, reported the matter at his division.

“The boy was suspected to have hung himself with a rope in his parent’s apartment shortly after he returned from school.

The father said his wife called him on phone on Monday at about 12:25pm and informed him that their son was found dead in his room.

“Our men immediately rushed to the scene of the incident and recovered the rope allegedly used by the deceased to hang himself,” she said. DSP Malum said police have launched investigation into the case to unravel the circumstances leading to the boy’s death.

She added that the corpse was deposited at the Specialist Hospital, Gombe for autopsy.

Our correspondent reports that no arrest has been made yet by the police in connection with the incident.
