The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy identified as Okonkwo Obinna Emmanuel, following an alleged failed attempt to fortify himself with ritual against bottles.

The incident reportedly happened on April 2 at Iyamu Village, Illushi, Ubiaja, in Esan South East Local Government Area of the state and was reported to the police by the deceased’s elder brother, Okonkwo Onyenbuchi.

Source said a self-acclaimed native doctor, identified as Amechi Edozunor, in collaboration with one Kelvin Ugru, allegedly performed a charm on the victim to make him invulnerable to bottles.

He said after the ritual experiment, the suspects reportedly hit the deceased head with a bottle in an attempt to prove the efficacy of the charm, which resulted in a fatal head injury.

It was gathered that the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was receiving treatment but eventually died on April 5.

The remains of the deceased were said to have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

Sources said the suspects are currently being detained in police custody for further investigation.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, saying two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.
