A magistrate court sitting in Benin, yesterday, ordered that a 14-year-old boy who police accused of raping a four-year-old girl be remanded in a juvenile home.
The police charged the offender with one count of indecent act punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, as applicable in Edo.
The offender pleaded not guilty when the prosecutor, Insp Olatoye Oluwaseun, read the charge to him.
Chief Magistrate C. E. Oghuma, subsequently admitted him to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Oghuma ordered that the sureties must be his parents or guardian and show evidence of tax payment and resident within the courts’ jurisdiction.
The magistrate also ordered that the case be transferred to a Family Court and adjourned the matter until Dec. 3. (NAN)
