A 17-yr-old boy, Umar Abubakar, an indigene of Dorayi Karama quarters in Gwale local area, Kano state, has been arraigned before a Magistrate court for allegedly raping a 5-yr-old girl.

The accused, popularly known as Halifa, was ducked for violating Section 283 of the Penal Code Law.

Mother of the victim, Saratu Muhammad told police that she found her daughter (name withheld) crying, upon enquiry, she revealed that Halifa unlawfully deceived, lured her into a room and slept with her.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the victim was examined and treated at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.

When the charge sheet was read to the accused person, he pleaded guilty to the one count charge of rape leveled against him.

The presiding judge, Aisha Muhammad Yahaya, however adjourned the case to 30th August 2017.

In a related development, one Hussaini Lawan, a male resident of Tudun Maliki quarters Kano State has also been arraigned before the court for attempting indecent assault on minor, contrary to section 285 of the Penal Code.

The accused was allegedly lured an 11-yr-old boy (name withheld) into his residence, undressed him and attempted to assault him sexually, the charge sheet, said.

The court further heard that it was the quick intervention of the residents of the area that saved the victim from being assaulted by the accused.

The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate Aisha Muhammad Yahaya adjourned the case to 3rd August 2017.
