Boys across the country have been urged to report incidents of sexual abuse when faced with such challenge.

The advice was given yesterday at the LEA Primary School, Jabi, Abuja, during an outreach to commemorate the 2023 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

City & Crime reports that the event, themed: “Uniting Boys/Men To Invest Against Gender-Based Violence”, coordinated by FAME Foundation, with support from the French Embassy, was to engage and empower boys to become change agents in the fight against GBV.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the programme, the Executive Director of FAME Foundation, Arabinrin Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, said, “Looking at today’s event, we have been able to establish that boys too get abused, and they rarely talk about it.”

Ogunleye-Bello called on the federal government to review the Child’s Right Act 2003 with the aim of accommodating emerging issues relating to protection of children.

She said states that were yet to adopt the Child’s Rights Act in their laws should do so in the interest of the children.

The Project Officer of the French Embassy, Regis Ketty, said, “The French Embassy is proud to support the FAME Foundation in this project, and also other NGOs across the country, particularly in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and the North East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. This initiative is part of a broader campaign supported by French diplomacy to support the fight against GBV.”
