We are preparing very well. By God’s grace, we will give Nigeria the much desired victory. Going by the training we have received and the atmosphere in camp, Namibia will fall come Sunday.
The big players are now in camp ahead of Sunday clash with Namibia. Are you under any kind of pressure?
I am not under any pressure because we all have our styles of play in the field. Maybe the coach may like my style of play more than the other players. At the same time, he may like their style more than mine. It is for the coach to decide who to play.
Would you say the team’s confidence is still intact even after the defeat in Peru?
Our confidence is intact because our coach has been talking to us. He has explained our mistakes to us and we have learnt. We are not going to underrate Namibia but the truth is that Peru is different from Namibia.
Who is your favourite player in the Super Eagles?
My favourite players are Mikel Obi and Dickson Etuhu. I want to play like any of them. I have been learning a lot of tricks from them. You know we have almost the same style of play. They are my idols.
Since you play in the same wing, what are your chances of picking the shirt ahead of them?
Well, I can’t say I can pick a shirt ahead of any of them but I look it as a challenge. It makes me work harder. I know I cannot pick a shirt ahead of either Dickson or Mikel unless, I am found to be better. I have to give them the respect they deserve. After all they started the business before me. One they I will be like them and expect the younger ones to respect me.
Kano Pillars have not hidden their intention to win the NPL. Do you think this is possible?
That’s our target by God’s grace. We are going to win the league title this season. The management is trying and we are also doing our best on the field of play. We enjoy the support of the teeming fans and the government. Let’s wait till the end of the season.
If you were not playing for Pillars, which other club in the NPL would you like to play for?
If I were not playing for Pillars, I would like to play for Warri Wolves. If they come for me and I am not playing for Pillars, I wouldn’t hesitate to join the Wolves of Warri. I like the club.
Which foreign club would you like to play for in future?
My target is to play professional football abroad. I would like to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid in the Spanish league. But in the Premiership, I will like to play for either Manchester United or Chelsea.
Have you had any interest from a foreign club?
Yes, I have an agent who is working things out for me. Like I said God’s time is the best. Even if I make effort now but God says it is not yet time, noting will work. However, when the time comes, nothing will stop it.
What is your own assessment of the NPL?
Those in charge are doing their best but the NPL cannot be compared with what is going on in Europe. Personally, I look at the NPL as a stepping stone so I am not expecting so much. If the organizers can provide us with the basics, that will be okay.
How much money have you made playing football?
Not much really but I am grateful to God. For now I am comfortable. Although I want to make money, I want to learn how to play football before the money will come in. I thank God for everything.
What did you do with the first money you made from playing football?
I am a catholic so the first thing I did was to pay my tithe. After I paid my tithe, I made my family happy. My family has been supportive so I try to make them happy.
